About

Newburyport Area Branch
American Association of University Women
AAUW Newburyport memberThe Newburyport Area Branch of the AAUW was founded in 1980 and draws members from Newburyport, Amesbury, Salisbury, Merrimac, West Newbury, Newbury, Rowley, Georgetown, Groveland, Haverhill, and southern New Hampshire. AAUW is a leading advocate for education and equality for all women and girls. Membership is open to all those who hold an associate or equivalent degree or a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university. In principal and in practice the Newburyport Area Branch values and seeks a diverse membership.

Members avail themselves of a variety of programs and events, including mission-based programs, community service, mentoring of girls and younger women, and social activities. For many events, the program committee partners with neighboring AAUW branches, local colleges, libraries, and other organizations.

Each year we have three major fundraisers to fund a scholarship awarded to a local woman college sophomore or junior to attend AAUW's annual National Conference for College Women Student Leaders and for AAUW Funds, which include the Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund. Fundraisers in the past have been an authors' luncheon and a dinner with a local fellowship recipient who spoke about her area of study.

The American Association of University Women is a national organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls. Our commitment to these issues is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, and diversity initiatives.
